Mintron 12V6HC-EX

MintronEvolved from the Mintron 12V1-EX, and with enhanced features, our 12V6HC-EX version has the largest most sensitive Sony Exview chip. This camera accumulates light for up to two and a half seconds whilst outputting apparently continous video. All controls are on the back of the camera although it can be modified to add a remote control. The controls are wide ranging covering a massive range of shutter speeds, up to 2x digital zoom, negative image and image flipping and masking. It has two video outputs, svideo and BNC.

Capable of lunar & planetary work one minute and chasing DSO's the next, the Mintron 12V6HC-EX is the most versatile observing camera available. It can "grab" more light in a shorter period making it the best at meteor and guiding work. It also places the lowest demand on tracking accuracy making it a perfect partner to small "goto" telescopes like the portable Nexstars and ETX range.

What you can achieve

Lunar/planetary imaging

MoonHartwig Lüthen's work illustrates well the Mintron's all round capabilities. He has images of the moon, planets, comets & meteors, as well as deep sky objects.

Deep Sky Astronomy in a large city

Mintron GalaxyMartin Elsässer's image gallery of DSO's taken with a Mintron 12V1-EX. This page is in German, but some of the site is in English and is a goldmine!

Mintron M51In a backyard observatory on the outskirts of light polluted Munich, Ulrich Schmidbauer has created an impressive image gallery of DSO's taken with a Mintron camera on a 13 inch Newtonian Telescope, as well as creating an animated gif of asteriod 2002NY40. Visit his homepage at www.psw-muenchen.de

Guiding

Mintron GuidingKlaus-Peter Schroeder uses his Mintron with its on-board integration of images for up to 2.5 secs, for convenient guiding from a monitor, seated on a table instead of balancing precariously up a ladder by the newtonian focuser.

Mintron piggybackAnd amateur astronomer Alan Chen describes how he uses a Mintron for guiding his 12"LX200. Visit his image galleries taken with his SXV-H9C one-shot megapixel camera at www.heavenlyview.com

Accessories

Short C mount 1.25" adapter - £19

AdapterShort adapter aimed at reflector and some refractor owners. Used with our focal reducer needs less focuser in-travel, gives a reduction ratio of about .66x.

Long C mount 1.25" adaptor - £19

Long AdapterLonger adaptor suitable for use with SCT and MCT's (long focal ratio instruments). Used with the focal reducer it gives a reduction of about .4x.

C mount microscope adapter - £19

Microscope adapterAdaptor to allow the connection of C mount cameras like the Mintron to microscopes with 23.3mm eyepiece holders. Lets you see into the world of the very small.

C mount M42 lens adapter - £25

C to M42 AdapterUse your M42 mount SLR system lenses to view and image the larger deep sky objects like M31 and M45. Just add a camera tripod to observe the night sky quickly and easily.

T to C mount adapter - £22

T to C adapterAllows you to couple your Mintron, Watec or other C/CS mount camera to any scope or lens with male T threads.

Focal Reducer (1.25") - £25

Focal reducerWhen coupled with the short adaptor it functions as a .66x reducer. This ratio is very useful for deep sky performance with most reflectors and refractors in the F4-F8 range. Larger and slower instruments benefit most from reducing the F ratio. Adding the C/CS adaptor supplied with each video camera results in a reduction of about .6x, but requires more focuser in-travel than many instruments can deliver, without modification.Higher focal ratio instruments are better off with the long telescope adapter. Using the focal reducer in this situation can result in a focal reduction of around .4x. Achieving focus is not usually a problem with these instruments. F8 + telescopes are transformed for deep sky work by a large reduction in the focal ratio. Brightens images and increases field of view with all scopes. Accepts 1.25" eyepiece filters.

USB2 Video capture device - £39

Video Capture deviceCapture Mintron images to disk via a USB2 port (reduced resolution with USB1) & Windows 2000/XP. Has composite and s-video inputs and includes software.

Scart adapter - £10

Scart AdapterThis adapter allows you to connect the phono plug on your video cable to the scart socket of your TV or video recorder. Use if your TV/VCR doesn't have an AV input.

In the kit...

  • Latest enhanced Mintron 12V6HC-EX CCD observing camera
  • 12v regulated mains supply
  • 5m RG59 screened video cable
  • 1.25" telescope adapter with filter threads and dust cap

Watec 120n+ Cooled video camera - £749

Stellacam 3

The Watec 120n+ is now available as a COOLED video camera system. The Cooled Watec 120n+ Cooled represents the pinnacle of astronomical monochrome video imaging!

If you have been waiting for the BEST and most Powerful video system ever created for astronomy, your wait is over! Never before has a cooled video camera of this quality, with unlimited exposure time, been offered to the astronomical community. The Night Sky is truly the limit. Faint objects unattainable in any other video system are now within your grasp. You will reach greater magnitudes and see more deep sky objects in greater detail with your current scope than you could have ever thought possible. You will be experiencing the universe in a whole new way. You will hunt down faint comets, galaxies, supernovae and asteroids never before possible, and all without a computer. You and your friends can enjoy fantastic view of the night sky on televisions and monitors.

Watec WAT-120N+ Kit

Watec 120n+Without a doubt the Watec 120N+ is the supreme astrovideo device available today. Clearly designed to achieve the best possible image quality with ultimate sensitivity.

This camera can "expose" in frame integration mode for up to 10 seconds whilst feeding an apparently continuous image to your screen. New features are a manual mode whereby exposures are controlled by a start/stop button and a lunar/planetary mode with fast shutter speeds down to 1/2000 sec. The body of the camera is less than a 2" cube and weighs very little. A 3m cable connects it to a control pad.

With this device I have seen the central star of M57 with a 4" aperture and I suspect a smaller scope would also show it. Visually from my suburban location this star would probably require at least a 20" reflector. The 4" ota cost about £100, adding the Watec makes it a powerful imager thats cheaper and easier to use than any 20" I know! This illustrates that far from being an expensive purchase the watec can be regarded as a cost effective upgrade.
